Introduction

The capital city of Nepal, Kathmandu stands at 1,400 metres above sea level and stands as one of the must-see cities in the world. Home to at least seven World Heritage Sites, this won’t just be a trip; it’ll be a experience unlike anything else. Previously a Kingdom, it is now the Republic of sensory overload and the gem in the Buddha’s eye.

Historic temples, palaces and scrumptious foods like dal-bhat lie in waiting for your arrival. Whether you’re trekking through the Kathmandu Valley or perusing the National Museum, you’re never going to be bored with all the many sites and adventures on offer. Despite its terrain, there are good transport links connecting the city to the rest of the country and the world. Travelling by road and air are the main ways to get around. The Tribhuvan Highway connects the city to the south while the Prithvi and Araniko Highways connect to the west and north. The Tribhuvan International Airport connects the city to destinations in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. There are also regular bus services throughout Kathmandu and the Valley.
