Aldgate Shopping and Markets

Aldgate High Street is home to a range of retailers and chic boutiques that sell clothes, accessories, home decor and food. However, the most exciting shopping experiences in the East End stem from the local markets. Combining consumption and production, the market has been a stalwart of East London’s streets for hundreds of years. Aldgate is surrounded by some of the best markets in London and some of the must visit markets include:

  • Brick Lane market: go here for countless bohemian and authentic vintage clothes shops. The best day to visit is on a Sunday.
  • Brick Lane Farmers’ Market: This is a great market to buy some food, clothes, curry, and exotic spices. Although it’s open every day of the week, Sunday is the best day to visit the market. There is a flea market here as well where you can find some great clothing and quirky items.
  • Spitalfields market: This is the oldest market in London and has a history that goes back 200 years. Go here to sample delicious international street food along with countless stalls selling locally produced products.
  • Petticoat Lane market: Although only open on Sundays, this market is renowned for antiques and bric-a-brac.
