Kensington is synonymous with London’s great museums. The famous T-Rex at The Natural History Museum (NHM) pulls crowds during the day, but our eyes light up after dark. Both the NHM and Science Museums host a series of adult only ‘late’ events throughout the summer including live comedy and interactive exhibits fuelled by themed cocktails and canapés. In winter, the starlit ice-rink on the grounds of the NHM is about as festive a scene as we can muster. As a result of these bountiful crowd-pleasers, the restaurants along the Cromwell Road tend to be fairly chaotic. We recommend strolling a little further towards Gloucester Road and Kensington High street where you’ll be spoilt for choice among fine French bistros like L’Etranger and Mersault, modern British gastropubs like Launceston Place, the Ivy Kensington Brasserie or Coco Momo and chic rooftop cocktail terraces. Just a couple of tube stops north on the Piccadilly line and you can peruse the vintage clothes racks and street book vendors of Portobello Road, London’s favourite independent cinema the Electric and the exclusive boutiques and galleries of Westbourne Grove.
