Bloomsbury: Recognised as the literary and intellectual hub of London. The Bloomsbury Group: a group of English writers, artists, intellectuals and philosophers, the most famous members included Virginia Woolf, John Maynard Keynes, E. M. Forster and Lytton Strachey. Another Bloomsbury author was Charles Dickens, known and treasured all over the world with his remarkable work such as Oliver Twist, David Copperfield and The Pickwick Papers.
Bloomsbury is the home of The British Museum, founded in 1753, it was the first national public museum in the world and currently attracts over 6 million annual visitors. Lamb’s Conduit Street: This partly pedestrianised stretch of Bloomsbury has nothing to do with actual lambs! The street became fashionable in the nineteenth century, when Charles Dickens was a local.
There was once a Starbucks here, but local businesses fought to keep the street independent, and won!! The result: a perfect place to retire after a trip to the British Museum, and an excellent alternative to the West End for afternoon drinks.
