Indiranagar was first planned back in the 1960s and 1970s and has gradually transformed into a charming neighborhood. It is one of the poshest residential and commercial areas in Bangalore. It has tree-lined streets with broad lanes and umpteen pubs, cafes, showrooms, stores and restaurants along with parks and other open spaces. Indiranagar is one of the best places to live in Bangalore.

  • Indiranagar is one of Bangalore’s costliest residential and commercial areas.
  • It came up in the 1970s as a BDA Layout and took its name from ex-Prime Minister of the country, Indira Gandhi.
  • The locality was initially a quaint suburb with bungalows and independent homes, mostly accommodating employees in the public sector and Army/defense personnel.
  • The IT boom in the late 1990s led to Indiranagar’s commercial boom along with its arterial Chinmaya Mission Hospital and 100 Feet Roads. The commercial sector boomed in this zone with more shops being established.
  • Indiranagar has two stages, with the first one being the bigger of the two. Previous villages like Lakshmipuram, Doopanahalli and Kodihalli and adjacent BDA layouts are mostly taken as part of the neighborhood today.
  • The Namma Metro Purple Line goes through this locality with two stations for residents.
  • Indiranagar is well connected to other areas via BMTC buses and other public transportation facilities.
