  • The original Chinatown was located in the south of Pennsylvania Avenue around 1851. Later it was relocated to where today’s Chinatown is as the Federal Building was built there. 
  • In 1802, the city's primary public market was built on Pennsylvania Avenue between 7th and 9th Streets, which is now the site of the National Archives.
  • In the mid-1880s, there were approximately 100 residents in Chinatown which by 1936, became 800, including 32 families.
