Facts About KLCC
The site of the KLCC (Kuala Lumpur City Center) was historically a part of a wealthy suburban residential zone lying northwards from the Old Kuala Lumpur town. This is linked via Ampang Road and has numerous mansions and bungalows that date back till the early 20th century. The hub of the area was the original Selangor Turf Club site. There were several homes built around this site for offering views of the race course according. Here are some more interesting facts about KLCC:
- The Turf Club was shifted to Serdang and subsequent years witnessed acquisition of further residential plots.
- KLCC covers 100 acres with Suria KLCC which is the major commercial hub and shopping mall, occupying the area below the Petronas Twin Towers. The shopping mall has already extended till Menara Carigali from 2011 onwards. The mall is connected through an underground pedestrian tunnel to KLCC and this is linked to the Bukit Bintang shopping district through an elevated walkway for pedestrians.
- The KLCC zone comes with its 1,300,000 square foot convention center or Kuala Lumpur Convention Center. 216,000 square feet are allotted for functions and conferences.
- Binjai on the Park is the sole residential zone within the KLCC project. This comprises of twin 42 storied buildings offering views of the Petronas Twin Towers. The towers are the costliest in Malaysia.
- The KLCC Park is the central public area and one of the final designs made by iconic park designer Roberto Burle Marx from Brazil. It has a public swimming pool, jogging track, playground for kids and manmade lake along with water fountains.
