August Events in London

London is a wonderful city in summertime. It’s still busy, of course, even more so with the tourists flocking to the sights during the school holidays. But the great thing about this historic city is the masses of green space, the heaths, the commons and the massive Royal Parks. There’s no better time to enjoy them than in the mild temperatures that summer brings.

A day spent lazing in the city sunshine watching the world go by is a great day indeed, before heading back to your fantastic serviced apartments in London.

Those mild temperatures and clement weather also mean that more events can be based outdoors, here are a few events taking place in London in August. Just remember, the weather is better but this is London, remember your jacket and brolly!

Notting Hill Carnival

Lets start with the big one, London’s and indeed Europe's largest carnival first appeared in 1964 and has been going strong ever since. Floats, dancing, performances, food, culture and epic sound systems entertaining 2 million party people, what’s not to like?

Open Air Cinema

One thing you’ll notice about Londoners is their ability to take advantage when they are gifted with rare good weather. The Open Air Cinemas dotted about are great examples, after all, it’s hard to beat watching a movie under the stars.

These events take place throughout August and are well worth looking out for. You can watch romantic comedies in the Royal Parks or even in the grounds of a palace, you can even watch horror movies in graveyards! Perhaps the best one though is enjoying an alfresco movie whilst cruising down the Thames on a riverboat.

BBC Proms

If you were to be asked what is the world’s biggest music festival and you answered, Glastonbury, you’d be wrong I’m afraid. It’s actually the BBC proms that take place mainly at the Royal Albert Hall every year from July to September.

It’s a series of classical concerts which culminates in the raucous and world renowned ‘Last Night of the Proms’.

It’s worth booking tickets to your favourite events in advance, but if you want to be real ‘Prommer’ then queue up outside for the standing room before each concert. Just know your etiquette beforehand. Know when to applaud, when to stamp your feet, when to shout ‘Ping’ and when to shout ‘Pong’, seriously…

If you’re visiting London in August it’s worth looking at apartments in London as soon as possible. Thesqua.re offers short term apartments in London which are ideally placed for you to fully enjoy any of the events above.
