There has been a lot of excitement globally around the spectacular islands of Abu Dhabi. The Emirate is home to several such islands (more than 200 in reality), many of which can be accessed by visitors. The cosmopolitan and awe-inspiring city promises several attractions for travelers, right from historical and cultural spots to watersports, wildlife, mangrove forests, and a lot more. 

Abu Dhabi city is located on an island that is around 820 feet or 250 metres from the mainland. The latter is connected to it via several bridges. Many other islands are also connected to Abu Dhabi like Reem Island and Saadiyat Island.

  1. Saadiyat Island- 

It is located in the Persian Gulf and has gradually transformed into one of the city’s biggest hubs for culture and tourism alike. It is a fabulous place to view mind-boggling architecture and art alike. There is the Louvre, which makes for a must-visit for its stunning exhibits and artwork along with the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi which will be another feather in the cap for the Emirate.  

Saadiyat Island also has several gorgeous beaches along with lush greenery and parks. The Louvre here has been designed by Jean Nouvel and showcases modern and ancient artwork from countries like Greece, Egypt, China, and more. It also offers various temporary exhibitions, cultural events, and educational programs. The Zayed National Museum is also being built and will soon showcase the history of the UAE (United Arab Emirates) through the vision of Sheikh Zayed ibn Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding president of the country (1971-2004) and the Emir of Abu Dhabi (1966-2004). There is also a community arts centre for workshops, performances, and curated exhibitions called Manarat al-Saadiyat or The Lighthouse of Saadiyat here. It also hosts New York University Abu Dhabi. There are several hotels and residential zones along with entertainment options aplenty.

  1. Sir Bani Yas Island- 

This is a favourite destination for tourists in Abu Dhabi. You will come across fascinating wildlife on this island along with rugged terrain and picture-postcard landscapes. You can explore the area with a guided safari or 4x4 tour and spot giraffes, cheetahs, and a whole lot more. 

Horseback riding, hiking, and biking are all possible through the unique landscape along with relaxing at pristine and gorgeous beaches all throughout. The Sir Bani Yas Island Beach is the biggest tourist hub here along with the Sir Bani Yas Island Pier and Arabian Wildlife Park.

  1. Dalma Island- 

Dalma Island is a mellifluous confluence of tradition and history, offering vibrant local markets that retail handicrafts and spices galore. You can also buy unique souvenirs here. The zone has its own quaint charm that will make you feel like you’ve just stepped into the ages of a history book. It is a must-visit for those looking to explore and discover a new side of Abu Dhabi.

  1. Yas Island- 

One of the most famous man made islands in the region, Yas Island is a dream come true for those who love adventure. Ferrari World offers thrilling experiences with the world’s fastest roller coaster, while Yas Waterworld offers amazing water rides for enthusiasts too. The Yas Marina Circuit also plays host to nail-biting Formula 1 races while the Yas Marina is itself a gorgeous landmark. 

There is also a golf course along with more amusement parks, premier hotels, and restaurants. The UAE has developed Yas Island thoroughly over the last decade, transforming it into an adventure, shopping, leisure, and tourism paradise. The island is home to the iconic Yas Viceroy Abu Dhabi, the five-star property that stands half over water and half over land. The Yas Links Abu Dhabi is a cutting-edge golf course which has been designed by none other than famous course architect Kyle Phillips. This is based on traditional Scottish golf courses and ocean views are available from all of the 18 holes. The only  beach on the island is called Yas Beach and it is an ideal place to relax and spend some time with family or friends. 

The island is only 30 minutes away by car from the city and can also be accessed via boats or seaplanes. The Yas Express is a complimentary shuttle that runs regularly between all the key attractions on the island. This is the newest and highly developed international financial centre that the world can count on today.
