Exploring the city of Melbourne

The North East of England may be a notoriously chilly place, but Newcastle is a city with plenty warmth to be felt by the visitor, the Geordies are a friendly bunch. They’re a hardy bunch too, as tales you may have heard about Geordie lads and lasses not wearing coats even in the coldest of winters are completely true.

Aside from the tough, friendly people, the views around Newcastle aren’t bad either. The spectacular riverscape serves as a backdrop to culture, nightlife, food experiences, history, shopping and architecture, to name a few of the things that bring people to this city on the Tyne.

Serviced apartments in Newcastle from thesqua.re can be your base, the things you can do once you leave there are endless.

When you arrive in Newcastle you’ll notice something looming over the landscape, as well as dominating the conversation and in many cases the dress sense of the people that bask within its shadow.

That ominous building which commands the city skyline, towering over the city is St James’Park, the home of Newcastle United Football Club, the passion of a great may Geordies in this one club town. Certainly a passion of all those you see in the black and white shirts.

A visit to this cathedral of football to experience the sound of the ‘Toon Army’ should be high on any visitors list. Fifty-two thousand people can’t be wrong!

If football isn’t your thing you can still appreciate the stadium and its position in the city by going on a rooftop tour of it!

After the must see St James’s Park, make sure you experience what else there is on offer. A great way to do this and discover the city as a whole is on a walking tour.

The organisation of an official tour means that it’s safe, convenient and also gives you the opportunity to place the responsibility of choosing what to see in someone else’s hands. Someone who knows the best things to see.

There are enjoyable sites all around the city including the Quayside and Newcastle Keep. You can also arrange to go further afield to see Durham, Gateshead, or even the World Heritage site of Hadrian’s Wall.

Once you’ve had enough of landmarks, sport and history, you might want to wind down with a bit of shopping. Newcastle is the style capital of the North-East and offers boutique and designer shopping options as well as plenty of high street brands. Check out the Metrocentre or Eldon Square if you have a hankering for some retail therapy.

At the end of your day, there’s so many leisure options on offer in the city. Whether you want to dine out, have a pint in a cosy pub, a fashionable cocktail or party in the latest club, Newcastle has every base covered.

Nightlife is truly where Newcastle really comes to life. If you can time it with a home win for Newcastle United, you’rein for a great night!
