Floral Street
Covent Garden is a great place to stay if you are visiting London. It is right in the heart of the West End with excellent shopping and restaurants, and with the added bonus of museums, theatres, the opera and the ballet all right on your doorstep! The main Piazza and the covered Apple Market area is car-free with open air cafes and restaurants, sitting alongside stalls selling individual crafts, which gives the place a unique vibe.
Home to the Royal Opera House
Constructed as a playhouse back in 1732 and suffering two fires and a number of reconstructions, the iconic theatre in Covent Garden became home to the Royal Opera House in 1945, and to the Royal Ballet the following year. To find out what’s on and to buy tickets, check out the Royal Opera House website.
Home to theatre
As well as the Royal Opera and the Royal Ballet the Covent Garden area is home to more than twenty theatres! One of the largest and most historic is the Theatre Royal in Drury Lane, but there are plenty of others, The Aldwych, the Lyceum, Wyndhams and the Garrick to name just a few!
Home to street entertainment
If you aren’t lucky enough to get a ticket for the opera, the ballet or the theatre, then you still stand a chance of catching some great entertainment. Head down to the West Piazza and you can catch any manner of live street performance, from clowns, to mime artists to escapologists! You might even get picked on to participate in the performance. Either way, you won’t go home disappointed, but just make sure you have some loose change for the collection hat that goes around at the end of the performance.
Home to great food and the best bars
Whatever the occasion you will find the perfect eatery in Covent Garden. From London’s oldest restaurant ‘Rules’ and the Ivy, famous for its celebrity status, to Old London pubs, trendy bars and street cafes there is something to suit every time of day and every budget!
Home to great shopping
One of the best shopping locations in the world, Covent Garden has everything. From all the big retail brands, to cute little independents, to street market stalls there is a huge range on offer! You can pick up designer outfits and next door find handmade sweets and jewellery and more!
